PTE for study, visa and work
Match PTE Academic, UKVI, Core or Home to the form in front of you.
One name, four products
PTE on a form is not always PTE Academic. Study routes often want Academic. UK visa routes that ask for a Secure English Language Test want PTE Academic UKVI when they list PTE. Canadian routes often want PTE Core. Some UK family and settlement routes want PTE Home A1, A2 or B1. Sending the wrong report is a common, expensive miss.
Study
Universities publish a 10–90 cut-off, sometimes with a floor on each skill. Academic practice should include the current part-one tasks, including Summarize Group Discussion and Respond to a Situation, plus the essay. A 15, 30 or 60 day plan is only useful if it matches that cut-off. A short plan for a 79 target usually is not.
Visa and work
Read the department page, not a forum summary. UKVI is the Academic test booked under the SELT arrangement. Core is everyday English, with Write Email. Home is a short speaking and listening test, pass or fail, about 22 to 29 minutes. Work routes that accept Academic will say so. Do not assume a study score covers a family visa.
Practice after the match
Once the product is clear, practise only that paper. PTEGRO can open Academic, UKVI, Core or a short Home speaking drill. The Home drill is not the full A1, A2 or B1 test. The result on this site remains a practice check.

Study offers
A study offer names a test and a score. If it says PTE Academic 58 overall with no skill under 50, that is the target. UKVI is relevant when the visa step, not only the university, asks for a SELT. Some candidates need both the university’s Academic score and a UKVI booking. Read both letters. Practising Academic tasks covers the task list either way. The booking type still has to match the visa line.
Postgraduate offers with a 65 or 79 floor need the long writing task and Describe Image, not only dictation. A 15-day plan is a polish for someone already close. It is a poor start from a low practice check.
Work and migration
Work routes that accept PTE will name Academic or Core. Canadian routes that mention PTE Core want the Core report, with email and everyday tasks. A high Academic essay score does not swap in. Family and settlement routes in the UK that name PTE Home want A1, A2 or B1 as written. Home is speaking and listening, pass or fail, under half an hour. It is not a small Academic.
One practice rule
Match the form, then practise only that paper for the mocks that decide the booking. PTEGRO can open those papers. The Home set in the app is a speaking drill, not the full Home test. The result stays a practice check until Pearson issues the report for the test you actually sat.
A checklist before payment
Read the form and circle the product name. Circle the overall and the skill floors. Circle whether a SELT is required. Then open only that practice path. Academic for study, UKVI booking if the visa line demands it, Core for the Canadian-style form that names Core, Home A1, A2 or B1 only when those words appear. Pay Pearson, not a page that promises a certificate by email. After the sitting, send the report the institution names. That sequence is the whole of PTE for study, visa and work.
If two bodies want two products, book both. One report rarely satisfies both a university cut-off and a Home pass. Practise each paper on its own week so the email form and the essay form do not blur.
Use the article, then the timer
Read this once, then sit a timed set the same day. An article that never becomes a microphone attempt will not change a score. Note the cut-off, the product name, and the item type you missed. Return to the matching practice path: Academic or UKVI for the two-hour paper, Core for the email paper, and the short speaking drill only if the form says Home. Keep the Pearson report separate from any practice check. The article explains the choice. The centre test is the only result an institution can verify.
